The gray chamber is a collaborative project by Nina Pohl, Andreas Gursky and the Düsseldorf-London artists group known as hobbypopMUSEUM (Sophie von Hellermann, Christian Jendreiko, Matthias Lahme, Dietmar Lutz, André Niebur, Marie-Céline Schäfer).
Over a period of six weeks, an installation was produced at the hobbypopMUSEUM studio in Düsseldorf. In a 1-to-1 model of the Engholm Engelhorn Galerie elements of photography, painting, sculpture and sound are inextricably joined together.
This gesamtkunstwerk
charges all surfaces in the gallery, even the auditory ones, so that the
boundaries between individual forms are blurred and all sense of space
evaporates. The installation draws inspiration from such different sources
as Musil’s “Man Without Qualites”, Dali’s contribution
for Hitchkock’s “Spellbound”, issues related to psychoanalysis
and the search for the Amber Room.
